The Charter of the
Britannian Armed Forces

Article I : Purpose

A. The purpose of the Britannian Armed Forces (B.A.F.) is to protect Britannia from its enemies, both foreign and domestic, and enforce the laws of the Kingdom of Britannia and the High Council of Britannia.

B. The Britannian Armed Forces shall also encourage and support the Virtues, but at no time shall enforce the rule of virtue through force, nor shall the military oppress any sentient being on the basis of belief system, race, age, or gender.

Article II : Members of the Britannian Armed Forces

A. The Britannian Armed Forces shall consist of multiple organizations militias, each deriving authority from the High Council of Britannia via the Grand Marshal. Individually, these militias will be referred to as branches.
1. Militias may request to join the B.A.F. via their local councilor or governor, or by petitioning through the High Chancellor or Grand Marshal directly should they be based outside a recognized Britannian city. A majority vote of the Military Presidium will determine the initial outcome of the applicant’s request to become a branch.
a. The High Council of Britannia may reject a prospective branch’s inclusion in the B.A.F. if an objection is raised and is supported by at least two additional vote-eligible High Council members. If no objection is raised, the Military Presidium’s decision stands.
b. A branch may be ejected from the B.A.F. by a majority vote of the Military Presidium or two-thirds majority vote of the High Council of Britannia.
i. A majority vote of the Military Presidium may override any vote of the High Council of Britannia with regard to inclusion or removal of a branch of the Britannian Armed Forces during meetings of the Grand Marshal’s War Cabinet.
ii. A branch may be immediately suspended from the B.A.F. for a violation of the Rules of Engagement, which may be lifted at the discretion of the Military Presidium.
c. An individual in any branch may be dismissed from service in the B.A.F. for violation in conduct or rules of engagement pursuant to a court martial as outlined in the Uniform Code of Military Justice of the Britannian Armed Forces.

B. Each branch leader (known as a Field Marshal) will serve on the Military Presidium. The Military Presidium shall advise the High Council of Britannia via the Grand Marshal on military matters.

C. No member of the military may be a criminal. If a member becomes a criminal while in service, they must be removed immediately.

D. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will recognize the authority of the Grand Marshal and that the Grand Marshal's orders in combat situations supersede any orders given by branch officers or Field Marshals. In the absence of the Grand Marshal, the orders of a duly appointed Field Captain are to be followed unless they contradict standing orders of the Grand Marshal, the High Council of Britannia or the laws of the Kingdom of Britannia.

Article III : Branch Functions

A. Branches of the Britannian Armed Forces will have a written charter clearly expressing their primary purpose in the military.

B. Field Marshals and members are responsible for presenting any intelligence vital to the security of the Ruling Council, the High Council, or citizens of Britannia to the Military Presidium.

C. Branches of the Britannian Armed Forces may, at no time, enter into an agreement with any governing body or individual that may interfere with the defense of the Kingdom of Britannia or orders issued by the High Council.

D. No individual Branch may invade or initiate major combat with a foreign enemy without the consent of the Military Presidium or the High Council.


Article IV: Field Officers

A. Field Marshals
1. Each branch leader becomes a Field Marshal upon joining the Britannian Armed Forces, and joins the Military Presidium.
2. Field Marshals must adhere strongly to the B.A.F. Military Code of Conduct, and are subject to all limitations and rights of a military member as detailed in this charter.
3. Field Marshals may give no order that contradicts the standing orders of the Grand Marshal, an appointed Field Captain, the High Council of Britannia or the laws of the Kingdom of Britannia, unless an urgent situation vital to the defense of the Kingdom warrants it.
a. The Grand Marshal or High Council of Britannia may require a Field Marshal to explain their actions during the next council session.
4. Field Marshalls may not give an official declaration on specific issues without the consent of the High Council of Britannia, but may cite current policy as established by the High Council of Britannia.
5. Field Marshalls may conduct and organize lawful military operations or training exercises with approval from the Military Presidium or the Grand Marshal.
6. Field Marshals are authorized to issue temporary warrants for witnessed criminal activities, but must submit it to a Justicar of the High Court of Britannia within two weeks.

B. Field Captain
1. A field marshal may be appointed as a Field Captain by the Military Presidium or the Grand Marshal. They shall be empowered to command battle forces, and to make necessary command decisions that do not contradict standing orders of the Grand Marshal, the High Council of Britannia or the laws of the Kingdom of Britannia.
2. Field Captains are authorized to issue temporary warrants for witnessed criminal activities, but must submit them to a Justicar of the High Court of Britannia within two weeks.
3. Field Captain is a war-time battlefield-only rank, and is only a temporary assignment for the duration of a combat operation or other military maneuver.

C. Grand Marshal of Virtue
1. The Grand Marshal of Virtue’s powers, duties, requirements and limitations as contained in the Sixth Royal Constitution of the Kingdom of Britannia.

Article V : Code of Conduct

A. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces who are knocked unconscious during a battle will visit a healer, collect their belongings, don a gray robe to signify their inability to continue combat, and leave the combat zone.

B. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces may not impose taxation of any sort without the consent of the Grand Marshall of Virtue or the High Council of Britannia.

C. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces must be willing to give their life in the defense of the realm and fellow members of the military.

D. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will never surrender, nor will any commanding officer surrender his command while they still have means to resist. Surrender is never an option unless the surrender is the only means possible for the defense of the Kingdom or to save the life of another.

E. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces must remember that they are responsible for their actions, and will take no action unbecoming a member of the military.

F. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will act with the highest moral character, and will not belittle others nor use vulgar language while on duty.

G. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will never raise their weapon or spell against a citizen of Britannia unless necessary for the defense of the realm or in the defense of an innocent.

H. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will not negotiate with Enemies of the State. They are to be removed from crown cities and the High Council chambers. If they refuse the order to leave, appropriate force will be used.

I. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will not strike down an enemy if he has fallen into stupor or sleep.

J. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will come to the aid of all other members of the military in combat situations, even if outnumbered.

K. No member of the Britannian Armed Forces will harass any citizen of Britannia, nor interfere with their daily functions, unless necessary for the defense of the realm.

L. Military personnel shall, whenever possible and feasible, maintain the eight Shrines of Virtue, keeping them free from corrosion, the elements, and enemy occupation.

M. Members of the Britannian Armed Forces will stay current on all warrants and arrest known criminals.
