Bio:
I was born in Magincia to neglectful, aristocratic parents. My father was a jeweler of great renown, while my mother ran the main branch of the Magincian Stonecutter's Guild. Neither had the time to devote to a child, as their lives were centered on attaining greater status and accumulating wealth.
While I did not want for any material possessions, my childhood was mostly spent at boarding schools or sitting quietly at one of my parent’s endless dinner parties. Eventually, as I grew older, I began sneaking out at night to roam the city.
I learned many things while out at night… Many things the city’s nobles wouldn’t want shared. I found that I could easily scale walls to reach the highest window, or manipulate the fancy locks on chests with my nimble fingers.
I soon abandoned my emotionally-distant parent’s opulent estate, and ran away to follow my own path in life. My nightly journeys had already led me to become Magincia's greatest cat burglar. I prowled the homes of those foolish citizens of Magincia who took so much pride in their valuables that they set them out for display. They fetched a tidy sum on nearby Buccaneer's Den. I didn’t really care about the gold; the thrill was all I wanted.
Not long after I branched out onto mainland Britannia, I was caught trying to rob the shop of Arcodia's Mayor, Dot Warner. Instead of having me arrested, she took me under her wing to show me a more enlightened path...and how to keep my fingers in my own pocket.
However, old habits are hard to break... With help from her guildmaster and father, Lord DaKaren of the Order of the Etheral Ankh, Dot guided my sticky-fingeredness into liberating items from vile creatures and dank dungeons. I even managed to learn orcish from an unusually kind orc refugee from the Lost Lands named Mortug.
After the Great Exodus to Trammel, and the relocation of the Emporium closer to Kazola’s Treetop Keg & Winery, Dot seemed to fall into a depression. Arcodia was no more, and many of our friends had been lost or scattered over the new facet. When DaKaren took Dot and journeyed to other worlds, I was left in charge of the Emporium.
Years drug by without their return, I feared them dead in some alien realm. I fell back upon my thievery to survive, traveling to Malas and Tokuno to pilfer their riches. I had a few brushes with the Royal Guard’s prisons, and a few indiscretions with their leader… Eventually I was imprisoned by one of Tokuno’s evil entities for disobeying her wishes. For thirteen years I stood frozen in crystal and the world continued on without me.
Either by chance, or by design, I was freed from my captivity by the dashing rogue known as Ricardo. We toured the realms, liberating things as we went. When the Royal Guard finally caught up to him, I had left his cave only days before…
For a time, I lived in Papua and helped with the rebuilding. The tales of the blackrock motherlode led me northwards, and there, in the desert, I stayed for many years. When the wisp woke me one morning, illuminating my humble camp with its ethereal glow, I found myself being called back to Britannia. Dot and DaKaren had returned!
It was hard at first; I thought Dot would be angry with me for allowing the villa to decay while I was adventuring… But no, she was more apologetic for being gone twenty-three years – which to them had only been two! We quickly rebuilt the Emporium in Trammel, not far from the new Kazola’s.
I, however, have since fallen ill. A dark shadow haunts my dreams and clouds my waking thoughts. I find myself in strange places when I wake, no memory of how I got there. Dot and DaKaren are concerned, and have summoned help from far and wide.
I write this short history of my life in the vain hope that I might be remembered after I am gone. For only this and my journals will outlast what I fear to be coming…
Dot Warner’s Note: Morgain has since slipped in and out of a comatose state several times. Even a trip to Earth to try their medicine has failed…
