Faction RP Springboard

Factions have as much rp value as you want to invest. In has a rich game history tied to many of the main figures in UO fiction – Lord British, Nystul, Anon, Dupre, Minax, the Shadowlords, Queen Dawn, Blackthorn, with EA provided fiction as well as player fiction/accounts to provide infinite rp possibilities.

Here are just a few rp springboard ideas for factions:

Virtue Shield Fiction: This is a large reason why Lore and the Order are involved in Factions and why he would believe it is critical for the High Council and BAF to take a strong interest in Factions.

There is also something called Virtue Shield or what is more commonly called the Facet Barrier which keeps murders (reds) and the armies of the evil factions from waging war while in Tram. The Virtue Shield is maintained through the control of the eight faction towns. When a town falls into enemy hands that barrier weakens, thus increasing the threat to the safety of trammel. It has long been believed that should one of the evil armies establishes complete and lasting dominance over the dark facet (i.e. win the war), the virtue shield protecting trammel will fall and there will be no safe place in Sosaria.

Put a face to the fight and the people involved:

The wonderful article written by Martyna Z’muir concerning the Genocide of the Gypsies is the Philosophy I have found meets the most rp success in factions. What is life like for the citizens under Minax rule when a town like Skara is occupied by her forces? What is it like to be freed from that oppression?

Explore why it is important for the High Council and the BAF to provide guidance and leadership to the people who may still feel abandoned when the facet gates opened to Trammel. Was Lord British simply running away? Or did he provide a safe place for the innocent so he could wage the war against evil without the fear and worry about the effects of war on the citizens? Did he and Dupre plan to simply spin their wheels in the war and have it go on for all time or was there a plan to defeat Minax, SL and the Council to reclaim our original home and restore the light of virtue, law and order. Are these still worthy goals for Britannia?

The SL leaders are dead, slain by Dawn and the Royal Guards/Spies. The armies are disorganized, fractured among themselves, will someone from their ranks rise to lead them, Will the Britannian forces take this opportunity to strike and destroy what remains before someone fills that vacuum.

With SL disorganized, maybe TB should focus on the forces of Minax to eliminate the last true threat to Britannia (of course there will always be more).

Guild reasons: The Minocian Partisan’s resistance played citizens of Minoc and not necessarily the TB prototype but a thieves' guild that preferred Britannian trials and justice to simply getting killed in the streets by Minax or SL.

RP quests that can stem from attempts to restore the beauty of Felucca that was stripped away by war… key figures could be the Meer, elves of the Heartwood, the Mother Tree (located in the skara/ww area), druids, nature magic, etc.

Personal Role-play Reasons: Maybe you were born in felucca before the gates to trammel opened and you left, promising to return and liberate Felucca from the darkness that invaded it, once Jou’nar was removed from Trinsic maybe you promised never to let the city fall into evil hands again, (Evil Empires, corrupt trinsic officials and Atalans all included).

Berlin Wall type fiction “Maybe you have a family history where some of your family did not make it out, and were taken as slaves by an evil faction or live under oppressive Council rule where only those gifted with magic are deemed worthy to lead (they are not led by a Council of Mages in name only – this contrasts with traditional Britannian Philosophy that it is “Virtue” not “Power” is the criteria which makes one worthy to lead.

Maybe your situation is more current, and less honorable… Maybe by taking control of the towns you can corner the market in ore, reagents, trade, etc.

Just as there are endless possibilities for good rp in factions, there infinite evil possibilities as well.

-Maybe an “evil” guild will fill that SL vacuum and rise as the new Shadowlord. Another guild may serve Minax and infiltrate tram through a limited magical means…. Perhaps even tie your rp into how the amount of towns you control dictates how much of a tram presence you can exert. Maybe you play a mage who believes that skill in the magical arts is the measure of wisdom and intelligence and agrees with the council Philosophy, that the best rule for Felucca and perhaps all Sosaria, would be that of a Council comprised of the most powerful mages.

Just a few ideas to help promote the RP of Factions.
