Question's about running for Governor!

Hi Everyone,

I'm considering running for Governor of Skara Brae in the upcoming June election. I've been wanting to expand my UO experience for quite sometime, and I think running for Governor would be the perfect way to do it! I have a lot of great idea's (at least I think they're pretty good lol) that I'd like to bring to the table, but I'm a novice when it come's to the process of campaigning and the election itself. If anyone reading this has any insight regarding the subject, please help me out because I'd love to learn more about it! For anyone that doesn't know me in game, here's some background info about myself...
I started my account back in 2005, after a very long break I've been back to playing regularly for roughly two years now. My character names include...Farrah, Aine, Aya, Twyla, Queen Elsa and Erza Scarlet. I love decoing in game, in fact it's one of my favorite past times. I enjoy meeting new people and making new friends. I belong to a guild called DSD (and no for all of you thinking it, I am not Cire...I promise truly...I am in fact a female!) I've been doing my best to help guide DSD in a positive direction, and help it grow in numbers. I RP'd in the past via Lonewolf, and D&D just to name a few. So, I'm excited very excited to explore the RP side of Ultima.

Thank you in advance for any help, and please feel free to contact me at any time!
ICQ: 604940519

Sincerely,
Farrah

Hello,

We're always looking for more people to join us, particularly for RP, though also in the "political arena."

I think my biggest piece of advice regarding the governor system is this: "Manage your expectations." By that, I mean don't come into the system thinking you're going to make over the city or be Mesanna's BFF, you'll be let down. Hard. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, I just don't want people's aspirations crushed (and then they leave) when they can't do what they've envisioned.

I suggest reading the GL Primer http://greatlakes.uoem.net/?page_id=2497 which will explain a lot, and read the past logs of the Royal Council meetings http://uorpc.net/phpBBB/viewforum.php?f=120 . The 24th meeting should be at 7pm C on May 11th in the massive chamber under the throne room in Castle Blackthorn. (Royal Council meetings are entirely RPed)

The election process itself is fairly simple, and is based entirely on the City Stone. The first stage of the process, nominations, will start on May 30th around 1:13 am (though I'm not sure which timezone that's in), this will last 7 days. During this time, you need to nominate yourself and be seconded by another citizen. (I strongly suggest your loyalty rating be Venerated.)

After the nomination period, voting will begin and last another 7 days. Each account may vote ONCE per shard.

Campaigning is entirely up to you, just don't be surprised by a lukewarm response or people asking you for the moons. We've been known to post campaign posters in the past, both here and on Stratics.

Should you get elected, it helps to run events related to (or sponsored by) your city. This can be really fun, but also very, very draining. Fortunately, PEC Wraith is available to help with events so they can be more interesting than the average player events of years past.

Governors may also represent their city on the High Council of Britannia, a player-run RP organization that's been around for a very long time. It meets on alternating Mondays at 8pm C in the Jerred Ghyss Civic Center in Compassion Grove. More information about it can be found via the High Council tab on the GL Tribune.

Most of the governors on GL have been in the system from the beginning, so they'll all be able to offer advice :)

Hi Dot,

All the resource's you posted will be a huge help! I didn't find your post to be pessimistic at all, but maybe that's because I'm a realist lol. I don't have a ton of friends in UO, mostly because I keep to myself (which I'm working on changing..) I think my biggest struggle is going to be the campaigning itself and how to win people over. I find myself thinking "why would anyone vote for newb like me verses a seasoned vet?"...I think that's something I'll have to work out through trial and error. I don't want to "buy" votes per say (and really who has the budget for that?), and I'm not going to participate in doing something shady or underhanded like making a toon the same name as... I don't know...Dot Warner lol. Poster's would be cool, and I'm sure I'll get some idea's from the links you provided! My schedule is pretty wide-open, one of the perks of being a stay at home mom (I just need to drag myself away from the Alliance Auction on Monday's, which would considerably help out my bank box.) Thanks again for all the links you provided. I'll do my research, and if not for the political side of things, RPing alone would be a fun change of pace!
